About the Role

Job Title:                                Big Data Specialist

Reports to:                             Big Data Ingestion Team Leader

Job Purpose:

Responsible of the development/configuration of the Hadoop echo system and performance tune the applications on Hadoop environment. Configure Hadoop systems to maximize performance. Build systems to perform real time data processing using Spark/Kafka.

 

Key Tasks/Accountabilities:

 

  1. Design, build & manage Hadoop applications.

  2. Performance tune Hadoop applications.

  3. Configure Hadoop systems to maximize performance.

  4. Build systems to perform real-time data processing using Spark Streaming and Kafka, or similar technologies.

  5. Manage the development life-cycle for agile software development projects

  6. Delivering projects end to end.

  7. Deliver customer-oriented solutions in a timely, collaborative manner.

  8. Proactive thinking, planning and understanding of dependencies

  9. Develop & implement robust solutions in test & production environments.

Typical Performance Measures:

 

  • Quality of Team Contribution.

  • Delivery of outcomes to agreed quality standards and deadlines.

  • High available platforms and data ingestion latency in less than 15 minutes.

  • Adaptability of work plans/resources in response to change.

  • Consistency and Quality of running services and solutions.

  • Responsible for company assets such as vehicles, IT equipment and PC’s.

Dimensions:

           

  • Reports to the Big Data Ingestion Team Leader.

  • Adhering to ITIL Processes.

What We Need From You

Qualifications/Experience:

  • BSC in Computer/Telecommunication Engineering/IT or Computer science.

  • Mobile Telecommunications background desirable.

  • 2+ years relevant work experience in telecom enterprise data management applications.

  • In-depth knowledge in Big Data systems (Cloudera stack).

Knowledge:

  • Good understanding on Hadoop/Kafka/Flume/Spark/Hive/Impala/Yarn (or hands on experience depending)

  • Software development background (Python/Java)

  • Telecommunication experience.

  • Cloudera Distribution knowledge.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (business and technical).

  • Orientated for process improvements.

  • Analytical technical skills to be able to predict the consequences of configuration changes (impact analysis), to identify root causes that are not obvious and to understand the business requirements.

  • Being a problem solver.

  • Team player.

  • Strong ability to understand complex system landscape configuration considering the E2E view.
